Our current display comes to an end by the end of the month so we're looking for the next artworks to elevate our space by the bar and above our couch. Smaller and bigger works welcome.

We support local artists!
Please include photos of your work, along with titles, dimensions and medium.
We prioritise art that fits the vibe of our space – cosy, eclectic, warm colours, or bold with purpose.
Artwork will be displayed for as long as you decide.
We'll happily help sell your work. Artists set their own prices, we're the middle-man. We don't take commissions in exchange for our space without rental fees.
Artwork must be ready to hang and to be transported to our store.
We can arrange labels with your name, title, medium & price.

When will you serve coffee & bakes?

At the moment, we gauge from July / August! More on why we have to wait to serve you here.

Do you only sell English books?

Yes, we only sell books in English. Our goal is to create a welcoming space for an international and diverse community of readers and English allows us to offer a carefully curated selection that speaks to a wide audience. We focus on stories that connect across cultures, and inspire thought and conversation. We’re always happy to hear what you’d love to read, too!

Can I bring my own book to your store to read?

Yes, absolutely. We love being a cozy, safe space where everyone can relax, read, and just be. Whether it’s one of our titles or your own favourite, we’re just happy to have you here – even better once we can offer you coffee, tea, matcha or bakes on the side in the future.

Do you have Wi-Fi?

If it's urgent and you ask nicely, we can absolutely connect you to a hotspot. That said, we do encourage a little digital pause—some mindful reading, good conversation, or just enjoying the space screen-free. ;-)

Can I order specific books with you?

Yes! Give us 1-3 business days to receive them and we'll have them ready. We can notify you via e-mail if you'd like.

Do you sell used books?

Yes, and we have a Donation section as well where you can leave or take books for free (please do come to the register to show us just so we can keep inventory).

Do you host book clubs or author events?

That's the plan! We are planning on hosting reading parties, book clubs and more in the future.

Can I rent your space for private events or meetings?

Yes – This will be possible in the future with our consideration. Please get in touch via e-mail.

Why We're Going Cashless

It might surprise some, but going cashless is our response to the massive challenges we’re facing in the hospitality and retail world: COVID aftermath, soaring energy prices, high inflation, staff shortages, and now the return of 19% VAT.

To keep offering high-quality products, fair working conditions, and great service, we’ve made some tough decisions — switching fully to card payments.

Why no more cash?

Going fully digital saves us time, money, and stress, allowing us to focus on what really matters.

What about tips?

No worries! 100% of card tips go to the team — tax-free and fairly distributed across all roles. We cover the transaction fees. We also have a tip jar for any change you might have. 😉

This change helps us stay sustainable and independent — without turning to big delivery platforms or compromising on quality.

The Bad & Good News

OUR OPENING DATE IS FINAL! BUT...

First off, the Bad News: We are STILL waiting on our license to offer you coffee, matcha, tea & sweet and savoury bites at the store. We knew beforehand that bureaucracy would take a long time here but it is still taking longer than expected. My trusted contact tells me it might be another 3 months until we can receive the license from the city (and this is the lucky case).

Now, the Good News: Thing is – people know this about me – I'm a little impatient. I don't want to wait! It feels like a set-back, since I was planning on opening with the complete concept, but the first lesson as a business owner is almost always: things won't always go to plan! I can mope and wait, or I can still go ahead and open Read The Room anyway – as a concept bookstore at first, café second (once we have that license).

Of course you'll be the first to know when we finally have it approved – because the moment we get that piece of paper, we’ll immediately start serving our exciting menu (which for now will still remain a secret). Please know that we want nothing more than serve you those drinks - we are simply not allowed to yet.
